One such company was John Deere Company, which located its operations in downtown Bay City from 1915 to 1951. Other major businesses that operated in Downtown Bay City during this time include Pick-and-Pack Clothing Store (1915), Jardine Rubber Works (1920), Armour & Coats Store (1925), and Ford Motors Corporation (1931). In 1951, BayCity became an independent city under the leadership of Mayor Wiley Boggs Jr.. Boggs sponsored several initiatives designed to improve life for citizens: he created a city council, built new public buildings, created an ordinance regulating parking meters, and developed a plan for creating Economic Development Districts throughout the city center to promote business growth. Since then, downtown bay city has experienced significant redevelopment including construction of numerous commercial structures along Elm Street between Polk Avenue and Houston Street; renovation of manyhistoric buildings associated with central business district activity; addition of several new neighborhoods including Hunters Point Park South and The Alameda; development of multiple lightindustrial districts within walking distance of downtown bay city; and expansions into adjacent areas including MidtownHouston/The Loop/UptownHouston/the Ship Channel Area
Bay City, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 809 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area and is included in the Dallas-Fort Worth CBD statistical area. Bay City was founded by Captain John Fife on October 15, 1844 as a result of his exploration of what would become East Texas during the 1850s. The first post office in Bay City opened on December 2, 1848. The village of Bay City grew up around Fife's store and mercantile enterprise which prospered until 1872 when it burned down due to an accidental fire. In 1870, Isaac Swayne built Swayne's Mill which produced flour for the surrounding villages until 1907 when it closed because of lack of demand from bay city residents who now live in Dallas or Fort Worth. In 1904, Waddell Corrigan donated land to create Arlington Heights Cemetery and named it after himself; Corrigan had come toTexas from Ireland some years earlier looking for land to settle and found Arlington Heights along Brush Creek near present day Lubbock with its rolling hills and ample forests about 20 miles west of Austin at a time when much of Travis County lay within today’sDallas/Ft Worth Metroplex boundaries (the original nine counties that made up East Texas were Bexar, Ellis, Galveston, Harris (nowHouston), Kenedy (nowKilleen), Mayacaibo (nowManvel), Nacogdoches (nowNacogdoches) and San Augustine). As Arlington Heights became more developed over time people began to refer to themselves as "Bay Cityians" or even "Arlington Heightsites". This name stuck around through annexation by Dallas/Fort Worth in 1961 followed by Rockwall County in 1965 before finally becoming a part of Dallas/Fort Worth proper in 1999 when Ross County split off from Tarrant County. There has never been any official change back to "Bay City" though many bay cityians still prefer this moniker over their hometown appellation simply because they consider it more familiar than Arlington Heights Cemetery or Rockwall County proper which are both relatively new namesakes albeit with histories that go back centuries longer

Bay City is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located on the Gulf Coast of Texas near Houston. The population was 97,763 at the 2010 census. Bay City is included in the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. Bay City was founded by John Fenton and his family in 1835 as a fishing village on Avery Island just off the mouth of Buffalo Bayou. In 1836, Fenton moved to what is now Bay City and began construction of a wharf on land he had purchased from the Comanche people. He named his new town after British explorer Sir George Beechey, who visited Texas in 1826-27 and noted "a good harbour and some fine inland towns" along Buffalo Bayou but did not explore it further north because there were no Mexican settlements then that extended into Canada or Mexico proper. The first post office was established in Bay City on July 1, 1840, under the name of Prairie View (later renamed Houston). It served local fishermen until November 1, 1845 when Fort Bend County became an independent county and its first sheriff took over responsibility for mail service within that new county area.
