In 1984, The Gunsmith Shop closed down their doors but they left behind a lasting legacy on Balch Springs! Balch Springs, Texas is a small town located in Hardin County, Texas that has been around since the early 1800s. The name "Balch Springs" comes from two Creek words, "balcha" meaning "water" and "springs" meaning "place to drink." The first mention of Balch Springs was in 1836 when John C. Goodall wrote about the creek and its springs. In 1851, the Post Office was established in Balch Springs and remained in operation until 1959. The population of Balch Springs grew gradually throughout the years until it reached its peak during World War II when it reached over 100,000 residents. After the war, the population declined slowly until reaching its current level of around 15,000 residents in 2013. Although there are many different businesses and organizations located in Balch Springs, one of the most popular tourist attractions is Mount Pleasant Cemetery which is located just outside of town.

Balch Springs, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County and the home of the Bryant-Denny Research Institute. The first recorded mention of Balch Springs was in 1836 when it was known as "Baldwin's Creek". A post office called Baldwin's Creek was established in 1838 and remained in operation until 1860. In 1859, a group of English farmers named Baldwin purchased land east of present-day Balch Springs from an Indian tribe. They renamed their new settlement after Samuel P. Bryant, one of their owners. The town started to develop as a farming community with cotton plantations and sawmills becoming dominant economic sectors by the end of the 19th century. In 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt awarded Balch Springs cityhood and it became a municipal corporation on December 12 that year under the leadership of Mayor John Fenton. On July 1, 1916, during World War I, Balch Springs joined Houston as an Eighth Army Occupation Zone within American Samoa due to its strategic location on Samoan islands adjacent to Japanese forces stationed on Guam and Tinian Island*. During World War II*,Balch Springs played an important role in supporting combat operations by serving as headquarters for Third Air Force (the air forces branch charged with providing air support for Allied ground forces).
