The Gun Locks Company is credited with originating the self-adhesive gun lock design which became known as the "Kriegerlock." The Kriegerlock is still manufactured today by American Lock & Armory Incorporated (AL&A) under the brand name "Glock." Gustavus Krieger is considered to be one of the fathers of modern firearm lock technology and his contributions to this industry are immeasurable. He is honored with a plaque at the company's headquarters in Balch Springs, Texas which reads "Inventor of Gun Locks – Gustavus Krieger." Balch Springs, Texas is a small city located in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. The population was 22,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Balch Springs was founded by General John F. Balch in 1885 as a frontier settlement on the present-day site of Dallas. In 1912, he donated land to make way for the Dallas–Fort Worth Airport. The charter town library and general store were built there in 1916 and 1922 respectively. In 1960, Balch Springs became an annex of Arlington Heights after that city's annexation by Dallas. That year saw the opening of the first comprehensive high school in Dallas-Fort Worth: East High School (later Arlington Heights High School). In 1984, Arlington Heights annexed Balch Springs and created its own municipality with its own government and municipal services including fire protection and public transportation systems; however, both towns continued to operate as separate municipalities until 2000 when they merged into one community under one name - Arlington Heights/Balch Springs Municipal Authority (AHMA). AHMA continues to exist as an independent community withinDallas-Fort Worth Metroplex today.

Balch Springs was founded in 1872 by John W. Balch and his wife, Sarah. The first store in town was built on the corner of First and Elm Streets.
