Balch arrived in what is now Balch Springs, Texas with his family on horseback from Glasgow, Scotland. The brothers James and Alexeybalch were among the first European settlers in what is now Dallas County (now Arlington), Texas. They built their home on present-day McKinney Avenue in what is now downtown Dallas; it remains one of the oldest continuously inhabited buildings in that city today. By 1840, however, James W.'s wife had married John Denton and moved to Plano (then Fort Worth) with their children; soBalch Springs relocated permanently to its current site on Elm Street near Trinity Railway Station in 1881 following Doctor George Washington's death at age 73 years old just three months earlier that year! As one of American West's most vibrant towns during its early days – before automobiles or air travel – Balch Springs boasted over 100 businesses including banks (two having been destroyed by fire), grocery stores/merchant shops/ BUTCHER'S BREAD & BUTTER CO., meatpackers (?), clothiers/drapers/, milliners/, shoe stores/, etc.; several churches including THE METHODIST CHURCH OF BALCH SPRINGS AND MORRIS', schools both public school(s) for negroes only until 1888 as part of Reconstruction efforts after slaveowners were allowed to purchase white citizens' children into white families again following Union victory at Gettysburg; two Masonic Lodges active: MASONRY NOVELTY LODGE #1 which housed brethren & sisters 123 Elm St., erected Dec '1881; 2ndMasonic Lodge NoVt - 9600 Neches Rd., Ft Worth MO [in 1901]; several saloons such as Pecan Grove Saloon #2 located along Elm Street opposite First Baptist Church) all soon closed down due mostly to prohibition laws passed throughout much of America during this time period - though some continued operation up until 1920 with malt liquor being available until 1929! Balch Springs was founded on December 24, 1881 by James A. Balch and his wife Anna. The town was named after General Nathan Bedford Forrest, who helped lead the Confederate forces in the Texas Revolution of 1836. Balch Springs quickly became a center for cotton farming and cattle ranching. In 1912, the Balches erected an impressive frame courthouse that still stands today. In 1931, Balch Springs became a city and soon developed into a major center for commerce and industry. The city's original library was built in 1932 and is still in use today. In 1984, Balch Springs established its own school district which remains one of the largest in TXToday's economy depends largely on its agricultural sector, with many businesses located around the city limits including food processing plants, meatpacking operations and aluminum smelters
