In 1911, the club moved its shooting grounds to what is now known as Park Row Shopping Center on Elm Street in Balch Springs. The location allowed for more organized shooting with larger group sizes, which helped the club continue to grow and be one of the most popular pistol clubs in Texas.
Balch Springs is a town in Grayson County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Grayson County. The county was named for James H. Balch, a lawyer and politician who served as judge of the Fifth Judicial District from 1881 to 1893. The first settlement in what is now Balch Springs was made on December 12, 1861 by John A. Dickey and others near present-day Interstate 10 and U.S. Route 290 (now FM 3594). By 1865, some 400 settlers had located in what is now Balch Springs. In 1873, Elijah Bledsoe built the first school in what is now Balch Springs after becoming principal of Lamar School District #3 in that year. In 1878, Wm Crain founded the Crain & Howe printing press in Dallas which became one of the largest printing plants west of the Mississippi River and published numerous newspapers including "The Dallas Morning News" and "The Austin American-Statesman". In 1899, Wm Ewing started oil production at Dalhart Well No 2 northeast of downtown Dallas using water brought up from underground by Edwin Drake's TX Western Oil Company when it began operations there on March 3 that year under contract from US Steel Corporation head Arthur Ashebeck with petrodollars called Eagle Ford dollars being raised to finance this venture other aspects included developing areas south of I-10 such as West Irvington Road east of I-10 (the old Mockingbird Ranch) and east off Jct US 290/I-35W known as “Cheyenne Ave” about 4 miles long today near Slaughter Rd., just northwest of FM 3594 on land leased from Baylor University Agricultural Experiment Station during prohibition days prior to prohibition becoming law on November 8th 1907 generally known as “Drifting Sands” today although all evidence suggests no deliberate act or purposeful disposal took place any more than would be expected if naturally occurring sands were used within any reasonable distance proximate thereto past reasonably existing agricultural uses having been discontinued years ago according to local legend dateless lease agreement between Baylor University Agricultural Experiment Station and Drifting Sands Development Co proprietor/developer Wm Fenton Gentry dated May 25th 1923 featuring plat thereof entitled “Eagle Ford Wells Addition To Baylor UniversityShackleton Rd Methodist Episcopal Church Near Slaughter Rd herein called Dragoon Point Preserve also part Of Dragoon Point Resort amoungst Other Properties owned By Mrs Fenton Gentry At That Time consists Of: 1 acre Onright Side Of Big Spring Creek Named dragoon point Residence 2 Acres Onleft Side And Above creek dragoon point Soil Lot Size Approx . area Now : 100 acres Dragoon Point Resort has developed an upscale subdivision consisting OF 5 stories high Park features groomed gardens with tennis courts etc., unlimited pool access , luxurious clubhouse with full kitchenettes , spa tubs etc., unlimited driveway parking
