In 1930, Balch Springs incorporated as a village with a population of 350 residents and an airport serving just one passenger flight per week; but this lasted only two years before becoming an agricultural surrounding rural community with no commercial air service until 1955 when United Airlines began operating scheduled passenger service from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DAL). Since its incorporation into Dallas/Fort Worth Municipal Airport Authority on November 5, 1955 - renamed for General Lucius Clay - general aviation has been dominant at DAL with scheduled airline commuter flights continuing today using issues such as weather or demand changes which have severely limited competition at DAL during peak travel periods although direct Fly Arkansas provides some services connectingDallas-Ft Worth Regional Airport with other major airports including Memphis (MEM) and Little Rock (LITT). Today there are over 100 small businesses employing over 3200 citizens within the limits of Balch Springs municipal boundaries making it one of America’s most vibrant downtowns!

Balch Springs, Texas is a small town located in Johnson County, Texas. The population was 1,253 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Johnson County and the largest town in Johnson County by population. The first settler in what is now Balch Springs was John Futch, who arrived in 1836. His son-in-law, James Aiken, also settled here and built the first house on what is now Main Street. In 1851 David Denton established a trading post along Spring Creek near today's intersection of Elm and Main Streets. By 1865 there were 5 businesses operating inBalch Springs with a population of 115 residents. A store and post office were built here in 1871 by Neely Crouch from Dallas, Texas. This business was called "Buchanan's Store." It remained open until 1902 when it burned down. In 1906 Wanda Lantz opened her first restaurant here which became known as "The Gilded Cage". She served breakfast and lunch until she closed it in 1969 due to financial difficulties. In 1912 Alice Funk set up her own grocery store on Elm Street opposite Buchanan's Store which became known as "Alice's Grocery". That store remains open to this day and has been tourist attraction ever since! In 1923 Florence Hardwick opened a dress shop on Elm Street which continued to be operation until it closed its doors in 1963 because of lack of customers. From then until 1971 there was only one business left open: Mrs.'s Flowers & Gifts on Elm Street (now part of Walmart). The last resident to leave Balch Springs was Harry Hinton who died at the age of 92 years old on October 3rd, 1971; leaving behind his wife Lois Addison Hinton who operated the store for 11 more years before closing it permanently upon her death six months later at age 96 years old! The original Post Office building still stands today adjacent to downtown Balch Springs - visible from Main Street - serving as both an museum/gallery and community center during its time as a functionary for both local government (Johnson County) and neighboring Williamson County! From 1916 through 1961 it housed the county jail although no jail has been seen within or outside Balch Springs since that date! Although not currently used for government functions (due to vandalism), portions of the building have been preserved as a historic landmark by virtue of their architecture alone!
