The ranch was sold in 1931 and the targets were moved to a new location on Old Hickory Road. In 1937, the ranch was sold again and the targets were moved to what is now Elm Street. From 1941-1945, target holders operated out of a small building at 411 Elm Street. In 1951, a larger building was built at 515 Elm Street and it remains in use today.
Azle is a town in Vernon County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. As of the 2016 US Census, Azle has a population of 2,711. The first settler in what is now Azle was James Hogg who arrived in 1859. The community was named for General Sam Houston and his forces who fought against Mexico during the Mexican-American War. In 1863, John Mears founded an independent cattle business on a ranch that he called "Meadowbrook." A post office opened in 1870 and was renamed Azle in 1874 after Senator Thomas Fenton Baird from Kansas City, Missouri. In 1886 J.B. Richardson established a sawmill at the junction of Telephone Road and FM 571 (later TX 183) which became one of the largest lumberyards in Texas and still operates as such today. Richardson also built two churches – First Methodist Church (1892) and Second Baptist Church (1902). He also constructed four homes: One on FM 571 near where TX 183 meets Interstate 10 (now Loop 610), another off TX 183 just east of Old Highway 377 (now I-10), and two further west on Loop 610 north of Main Street before eventually selling all four to various individuals or businesses over time until it closed its doors for good in 1984 with only three remaining structures standing today: One on Main Street which functions as an office building leased to PPL Corporation since 2007; the other two buildings are used as apartments for seniors; and finally one home remains vacant currently but is being eyed as potential development property by local developers ? azle tx history

Azle is a town in Victoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Azle was founded by settlers from Illinois in 1879. It grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on the Red River near what is now Wichita Falls, Texas and its access to water resources. In 1916, Azle became one of thirty towns consolidated into Victoria County under the jurisdiction of the new county government. On November 16, 1916, voters in Azle passed a referendum approving an act creating Victoria County and authorizing its creation by An Act to Consolidate Towns withinVictoriaCountyofTexas. The vote represented a shift away from rural central business districts towards growth in larger towns throughout the state as well as evidence that residents were supportive of county consolidation. By 1920, azle had reached its current size with over 2,000 residents. Growth continued through the years until World War II when heavy industry displaced much of traditional agricultural production andAZLE began to lose population again due largely to factors outside of its control such as war-time relocation and natural disasters like hurricanes Harvey and Irma
The town of Azle, Texas was founded by the Stephens family in 1847. The town grew quickly and soon had a post office, bank, and other businesses. By 1865, the population of Azle had grown to over 1,500 people. The townspeople built a log courthouse in 1868 and began to pursue development plans. They requested support from the state government in order to build roads and improve infrastructure. In 1872, the state legislature approved a $2 million appropriation for development projects inAzle. This subsidy helped spur growth in the town and its economy. After years of growth, Azle became an incorporated municipality in 1907.
