Amber, TX is a small town in the rural heart of Texas. It's about an hour and a half south of Austin on I-35W and it's only about 20,000 people. The population was estimated at around 10,000 in 2010. The town is named after General Sam Houston, who fought in the Texan Revolution against Mexico. Amber was founded by pioneer farmers in 1875. As cotton became more important here than cattle ranching, the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) helped to make Amber one of the most prosperous towns in Texas during the early part of this century - until fortunes changed again when oil exploration and production began to take hold hereabouts in earnest. By 2007, jobs had dwindled to just 5% of what they once were; energy production has since made things worse by swamping much needed water supplies for local farmers while also competing with neighboring towns for scarce resources like jobs and homes. The current incarnation of Azle started as a crossroads before being platted as a community near what is now State Highway 183 east of US 59/I-635 on land that had been part of Baylor University’s original campus established back in 1871. At first there were few residents because farming was the primary occupation and transportation was by horse or wagon overland from faraway Dallas or Houston due to lack of available rails or roads at that time. In 1907 when construction began on US 59/I-635 through present day Azle, many people flocked to see what seemed like a miracle development – two days after construction began! The first store was opened at 9:00 am on November 2nd 1907 by ½ mile wide dirt road which led from Main Street into then Community Park which later became known as “Amber Gulch” today! 1st Post Office opened March 25th 1912 under name “New Hope”

Today, Azle continues to experience strong economic development with major employers including Gulfstream Aerospace and North American Aviation Inc.. In recent years there has been an increase in initiatives focused on cultural preservation such as its annual Bluegrass & Folk Festival which attracts over 100,000 visitors each year; its history museum; and its annual azalea festival which features several thousand entries from around the world.

It was also an important center for education and industry. In 1916, the Azle Improvement Company began to build a new dam on the White River, which caused some of the town's economic decline.
