Azle is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,867 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo– Gallup Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Azle post office opened on November 12th, 1881. The name "Amber" was chosen because the first letter in the town's name was A and the next two letters were B and C. In 1903, a school was built which still stands today and named after Mrs. Higginson who donated land for it. In 1909 another school building was constructed which also still stands today; this time with its original name "Haley." Also in 1909 a Baptist church was built in Azle and it still remains today as one of the most popular churches in Azle with over 1,000 members present each year! In 1922 an addition to Haley Schoolwas added that became known as "the High School." This building has been used by both public and private schools since then! In 1951 an annex to Haley High Schoolwas added which became known as "The Annex". This annex served as a business center for both Azle Schools until 1984 when they moved into their current buildings on Old Highway 66/Old Highway 71! Azle has always been known for its agriculture products such as corn (maize) beans (white), cotton (grape), tomatoes (sour cream), eggs, butter, honey, etc., but now there are several businesses located throughout the town that offer services such as home-building or pet-tingling services!
