Azle is a town in Ellis County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,568 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in Azle was Nicholas Couch in 1836. A post office called "Aylesbury" was established in 1838, and changed its name to "Azle" in 1840. In 1865, the Cimarron Railroad arrived in Azle and began serving the town as well as nearby Comanche Wells on its way to Lubbock. The railroad helped spur growth and development throughout the early 20th century; it closed down in 1951. During World War II, Azle served as an airbase for the United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force from 1943 until 1945; it also housed various branch offices of The Pentagon during that time period. After World War II, many businesses opened up around Azle including several grocery stores, two hotels (the Comfort Inn & Suites and Monterey Inn), a Sears store (now Christmastime Place), a Ford dealership (now Jiffy Lube) and numerous services such as welding and carpentry schools.

After World War II ended, Congress began hearings ongun control legislation. In 1949, the Gun Control Act was amended to create federal regulations governing firearm manufacturing and trade. This amendment set up national standards for firearms design and production so that no state could violate these regulations without violating federal law as well.
Azle is a city in San Antonio County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,381 at the 2010 census. It is the namesake of Azle Creek and its main recreational area. The first settlers in what is now Azle were white men named Suttle and Grimes. They arrived in 1848 from Illinois. In 1849, they founded a small town on the banks of the Brazos River which they named "Able." The name "Able" came from an Indian word meaning "place where I can find water." When the town grew too large for the original settler's resources, they relocated to what is now downtown San Antonio in 1856. There they built a dam on azle creek to generate power for their irrigation system. In 1865, when San Antonio was taken over by Mexico during the American Civil War and become part of Mexican territory, Able residents voted to re-establish their own municipality under Spanish sovereignty with another name: Santiago de Cuba (Santiago del Cabo). After Mexican independence was achieved in 1821, San Antonio reverted back to English control and renamed it Austin on December 6th, 1836. On February 14th of that year (1836), Austin incorporated as a city under Spanish jurisdiction with its current name of Azle after Josefa de las Mercedes de la Cueva y Peña who served as Mayor from 1800 until her death in 1799
