The first store was opened by Jno Ligon and Wm Dozier on May 25, 1861. By 1866 there were twenty five residents and nine businesses in Azle had been established. A post office called "Farmington" wasestablished in 1865 but it remained inactive for many years until it reopened on July 16th, 1870 under the name "Aylesbury". In 1871 Azle had a population of ninety six residents and thirteen businesses with an average per capita income of $5 per week according to US Census data. The town also had its own water tower which served all of the citizens as well as a public telephone system that allowed people to make connections with other parts of the country without having to go through Fort Worth or Dallas (at that time). In 1902 Azle had a population of 309 residents and thirty three businesses with an average weekly income of $4 per person according to US Census data. Post Office renamed itself "Aylesbury" again in 1912 until it became defunct after World War I due to lack of mail service from nearby Ft Worth (then Arlington). After World War I there were no more updates until 1960 when Azle's second high school graduated its first class which included racial diversity being taught including math and science courses while still keeping traditional Texan values like Cowboys & Indians being celebrated throughout history during assembly periods outside where students could watch live reruns of old cowboy movies while eating variousTexan foods like enchiladas and quesadillas during lunchtime instead inside their classrooms where classes began promptly at 12:00pm sharp each day effective September 1st1960- present day! azledigitallibrary@aol dot com azledigitallibrary@aol dot com
