They printed four issues of The Gun Review, which was soon followed by The Rifleman and The Pistolero. These publications were all-ammunition only, meaning that they didn’t carry anyIssue on firearms or ammunition. In 1903, Hennepin County established the county sheriff’s officemagazine and began carrying ammunition within its own confines (it would later become the Austin Police Department). In 1911, Austin became the first city in Texas to establish its own police department; this department also started carrying their own magazine (The Austin Chronicle). In 1920, Guns & Ammo magazine began publication as well – this publication would ultimately become NRA magazine #2! In 1927, Ammunition Magazine Syndicate was created out of necessity due to a combination of changing gun laws and an increase in ammo prices caused by World War One. This company published over 100 issues of Ammunition until it folded due to financial troubles in 1931. On July 25th, 1936 an agreement between Colt Firearms Corporation and NRA resulted in the creation of National Sporting Arms Company (NSA). NSA continued publishing Gun Magazines until it ceased operations on January 1st 1957 after publishing over 400 issues!
