Athens, Texas is a small town in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. The Athens-Houston metropolitan area has a population of 935,000 people. Hogg in 1847 and he founded the town on his farm just east of present day Athens Boulevard and south of I-10 about two miles from what is now known as Point Isabelle State Park. Hogg's original home still stands today on the east side of Athens Boulevard across from MacGregor Elementary School which served as the town's primary school until it closed in 1970. In 1881, George Baylor purchased approximately four acres (16 ha) northeast of downtown Athens for $2,000 dollars cash and built an adobe home that remains standing to this day within City Limits Park boundaries today named after him - Baylor Heights Parks & Recreation Area - with trees and plants grown around it to replicate its design when built seventy years ago by Architectural Digest magazine’s Editor in Chief Ralph Waldo Emerson who also resided there at one time during his lifetime while writing “Nature itself” from his elegantadobe cottage called Xanadu . That same year construction began on what would become Baylor Street between First Street NW and Second Street NW which still exists today as one block wide surface street bordered by sidewalks but no streetscape because prior to annexation into Houston by Harris County developers a new expressway was constructed through the community eliminating much open space including most of Herald Terrace where Mr. Emerson had once put up his lovely periodical office back then before moving out to Brooklyn following Hurricane Sandy late last year It wasn't until 1907 when Dr Pepper Snapple Company bought 2/3rds interest in Athenian Coke Bottling Works located adjacent to Main Street SW between Ninth Avenue SE & Tenth Avenue SE that renamed their bottling plant "Dr Pepper" company officials visited during our Independence Day celebration here circa 1955 they were very pleased with our beautiful oldfashioned Greek Revival style Coca Cola bottle manufacturing facility with associated creamery & grocery store they decided we should keep our name so became "Athenians" company property continued operations thru several acquisitions including 1957 purchase by Pabst Brewing Company resulting in naming change back to Pabst Brewery Incorporated also later acquired by Anheuser Busch beer corporation resulted In current ownership split amongBusch (60%), Anheuser-Busch (40%) & Coors Light Companies (20%) making it currently largest craft brewer worldwide Citizens responded enthusiastically when fire alarm sounds early morning Saturday Nov 4th2002 started small rural community coming together quickly many volunteers numerous businesses participated sending large tanker truckloads OF water hoses down mainstreet biggest effort ever made Crowley Broadcasting System aired emergency response live from their studio high atop building all night long
