The city of Athens continued to grow during the 1920s and 1930s and by 1935, it had a population of over 50,000. The growth of Athens caused problems for its small water supply which could not keep up with the demand for water from residents and businesses. In 1937, Athens passed an ordinance increasing its water rate from $1 per acre to $3 per acre. This increase cost the city more money but it helped improve City Hall’s infrastructure and make it easier for residents to get access to water supplies. During World War II, Athens was one of several cities in Texas that participated inthe war effort. After the war ended, Athenians experienced some prosperity as they became better educated than their predecessors and new industries emerged such as plastics manufacturing. However, during the late 1960s through 1980s there were signs that Athenian economic growth may be slowing down due to rising costs associated with social welfare programs enacted by successive governments including those of Republican Governor Bruce Buford (1980-1986). These costs have led to increased tensions between government officials and citizens over issues such as education spending; pension reform; land use; zoning changes; etc., all of which are causing long-term tension within society as well as instability within local governments.

Athanasia is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,004 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area.
