Airguns have been around in Athens, Texas for many years. The first airguns were made in 1911 by Alfred Lichtwark and his brother-in-law, George Hohl. These guns used an 1875 revolver with aCampaign cartridge. In 1924, Harry Wirth started making airguns using a new design which he called the "Wirth gun." This gun was very successful and became the standard for airguns in Athens.

In 1951, an indoor air pistol shot event began to be held in the town of Arlington Heights. The first outdoor air pistol shoot took place on October 9th, 1952 at a nearby park. In 1966, the Athens Air Pistol Shoot Federation was created to manage all aspects of the sport and continue to grow it throughout the state of Texas. In 1984, an outdoor air pistolshoot championship was held at Biggs Park and it remains one of the most prestigious events in this sport today.
Athens, Texas is a small town in Williamson County,Texas. It was founded by Mormon settlers in the late 1800s. The population was 1,986 at the 2000 census. Athens is located on FM 1628 about 20 miles north of Dallas and 50 miles south of Houston. According to the 2010 census, Athens has a population of 3,898 people. The town was named after Athens, Ohio which was then part of the United States. The first post office in Athens opened in 1872. The cotton gin and textile factory built there were closed in the early 1920s but have been preserved as a museum and tourist attraction known as "The Cotton Gin Museum." In addition to its rich history, Athens has many cultural attractions including an opera house and artesian well that are open to the public for visitation during regular business hours or by special request during summer months when they are open from 9am-6pm; also available for guided tours during school days (K-12th grade students only). There are also several agricultural museums within walking distance such as the Agricultural Research & Extension Center which offers exhibits on topics likemire potatos (a type of potato), hogs, corn cribs and other farm equipment; home economics department at Baylor University's Richardson Campus; local law enforcement academy which teaches officers how to deal with crime; and more...

Athanasia is a small town located in Athens, Texas. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke County School District. The community began as a small log cabin colony in 1858 on the banks of the Brazos River. In 1865, the first post office was established here and by 1870, Athens had a population of about 100 people. By 1880, Athens had become an agricultural center with over 20 businesses operating at that time. In 1903, Athens absorbed neighboring village of Ridgecrest and became one municipality under the name "Athanasia". The municipal government continued to exist until 1925 when it was merged into Clarke County. During World War II (1939-1945), Thanasia served as a subcamp for Camp Clearwater east of Athens and during that time it produced munitions for both Nazi Germany and Japan. After hostilities ended in 1945, Thanasia's economy transitioned from agriculture to service industry with many businesses closed down due to lack of business opportunities after the war ended. However, several businesses reopened in subsequent years including two grocery stores which remain operational to this day; City Hall which was built in 1967; and Recreation Department which opened its doors in 1974. "Athanasia" remains an important community today with nearly 350 residents who are all active members of their local churches or denominations such as Jehovah's Witnesses or Baptists. There are also numerous educational institutions located within walking distance including: Our Lady's High School (opened 1969), Clarke County Junior College (1991), Trinity Bible Schools (1989) & First Baptist Church (1873). Additionally, there are three golf courses located within easy reach - one operated by Corinthian Colleges while another is managed by Houston Country Club Ltd./HCC Augusta Course Opened 1997."
In 1875, Athens was founded as the townsite of Athens on a bluff overlooking the Brazos River. The town quickly grew, and by 1898 it had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1902, Athens became an independent city. On December 1, 1912, it replaced Montrose as the capital of Texas.
