By 1900, there were over 100 citizens in Arlington. In 1909–10 an act was passed providing for local government within Tarrant County only; this change in government led to growth in businesses around downtown Arlington as well as in other areas such as NorthPark Center and MidtownWest Dallas which are today known as "the center of town." In 1916 voters approved annexation of present-day Flower Mound into Arlington; this addition increased the population size again reaching 300 by 1920. During World War II much activity took place around downtown Arlington due to military installations nearby including Richland Army Airfield (later Reagan National Airport), Fort Bragg (now Camp Lejeune), naval transfer yards Naval Station Corpus Christi Bayou(now Jacksons Marina)and Quist Mill Air Force Base which housed B-17 Flying Fortress bombers during Operation Doolittle on December 17th 1945 In 1961 when Tarrant County was dissolved into 14 districts it became difficult for municipalities with more than 25 thousand residents to continue growing since they were not given an equal share of tax dollars no matter how large their populations got so instead most towns/villages chose either smaller scale changes or eliminated their municipal governments altogether opting for self-government under state auspices known as "municipal consolidation" . This trend continued until 1995 when all cities plus annexed cities within Travis County gained full statewide powers pursuant to passage of Senate Bill 434 On January 1st 2020 Mayor Betsy Hodges announced that she would be running for re-election against incumbent John Lewis

The first inhabitants of what would become Arlington were Native Americans who lived near Fort Worth on the Ohio River. As a result of this battle, Arlington became part of the United States and its new capital was moved from Mexico City to Austin prior to Congress’s passage of The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo on February 2, 1848 which ended the Mexican-American War. After years of development by local boosters including George Washington Dixon and Major General John Crain (the namesake for present day Irving), Arlington grew rapidly with developing streetcar lines linking downtown with outlying neighborhoods such as Clarendon Park and Mount Vernon Square by 1910. By 1920 there were over 1,500 residents in what would become Arlington Township while 555 businesses operated in its five blocks containing 40 streets within a radius covering an area that extended from Elmhurst Avenue east to Rossmoor Road north to Bascom Avenue west and south to Market Street between Spring Branch Parkway East and Prince Georges Drive West (later Woodcroft Drive). On July 14, 1921 when Mabel Dodge Smith was elected Mayor Pro Tem for Dallas County she proposed annexation of all but one block in southern Arlington Township (northwest corner Elmhurst Ave./southwest corner Bascom Ave.) due to lack of support from other Dallas Council members then serving on that body for annexing additional territory within their jurisdiction following enactment by Dallas County Board Of Commissioners resolution Number 6 dated March 5th tasked with creatingDallas County Limits Within Which To Annex Addition Towns And Cities). This proposal gained overwhelming support both locally (overwhelmingly votes cast) as well as statewide via referendum results tallied on November 3rd1920 which resulted in annexation becoming effective effective October 1st 1921 giving birth today's city concept named after then Mayor Mabel Dodge Smith - "Arlington" - located entirely within eastern Dallas County limits now included within Richardson county boundaries! In 1957 when Interstate 20 was built through much of Garland/Ft Worth MAJOR growth occurred due largely to residential subdivisions established along I-20 corridor served primarily by suburban commuting workers employed at large technology companies locating along I-20 corridor adjacent highwaysvolume Builders & Developers
