In 1840–41 Captain David Brown established Fort Worth Post Road (later I-30) through present day Arlington to link Fort Worth with West Dallas (now Youngstown). This road still exists today as part of Loop 610 around Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

In 1847, Arlington became part of Texas when South Dakota was organized as a new state within the United States. In 1912, Arlington became part of Dallas County and it has remained its primary city since then.
