In 1898, Angleton was founded as a small town in the Austin county seat of Round Rock. The town rapidly became an agricultural center due to its location on the banks of the Trinity River and its position as a gateway to Texas. By 1915, Angleton had 4 businesses and 10 residents. During World War I, Angleton supported the United States by manufacturing munitions and supplying goods to military units located in Texas. In 1923, the City of Austin annexed Angleton and many of its residents left for greener pastures. The city's annexation led to a decline in population and commerce until around 1970 when angling became an important industry in the community again resulting in growth. The city has since undergone several incarnations including one during which it was incorporated as a municipalities with land boundaries that changed over time (1999-2001). Angleton is home to two municipal courthouses: One built in 1892 and replaced by a new courthouse following renovations in 1978-1979; and another pre-war courthouse that served as both courtrooms for local government (1925-1929) before being used as an armory from 1929-1969 before becoming Municipal Courthouse Number Two. The current building was completed in 2001 after extensive renovations funded by state appropriations under the auspices of Texas Parks & Wildlife Department - welcome back to history! As part of their celebration of municipal rights dating back centuries, Angleton voters on November 3rd approved amending their charter which limits City Hall authority only to matters regarding fire safety, public works or elections - ensuring that all other matters within Council chambers must be referred directly to Council members through regulation or resolution passed by concurrent vote rather than ordinance via ratification referendum/approval process!
