In the early 1800s, Angleton was a small town in Angelina County, Texas. The town was founded by John and Anna White and their families in 1853. At that time, Angleton had one store and two homes. In 1915, Angleton joined what would become Travis County as its first county seat after it was split from Hudspeth County. From that time until 1960, Angleton remained its only county seat despite having more than twice as many residents as Travis County did at that time (14,588 compared to 5,826). 2140 marked the start of what would be called "The Era of Progress" for Angleton with major developments happening such as a new high school (Angleton High School), two churches (Angleton First Baptist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church) and a new daycare center (Angleton Daycare Center). During this time Anglington also saw growth in its economy with businesses opening up including several restaurants/cafes/bars along Highway 183 which later became known as "The Boulevard." In 1990s came another period of growth with businesses moving into town square including several tire stores which led to anglers using The Boulevard for fishing tournaments throughout much of their season while other businesses opened up including but not limited to: two restaurants; three bars - one pizza place; four convenience stores - all gasoline stations; three hair salons - one beauty salon; four truck stops - all Hardware stores; two medical clinics - both general practitioners; one factory - clothing manufacturer; one agricultural company - corn harvesting company.; one engineering firm - contractor services company.; an auto dealership;; numerous small businesses too numerous to list here but typical such as plumbing supplies store,,,,,,

An early settler, Mrs. Gillett donated land for a depot on the current corner of Loop 410 and Ulysses S. Grant Street. This depot served as an important stop on stagecoach routes between Texarkana and Dallas during the late 1800s and early 1900s. In 1923, Angleton students founded their own school system which evolved into what is now Baylor University's College Station campus

Angleton was founded by the Texans in 1836. The town became a county seat in 1881. In 1907, Angleton was destroyed by an earthquake which left more than $1 million damage.
