The first white settler in Angleton was James A. Withers who arrived in 1845. He and his wife, Jane (née Hindman), had one child, John A., born in 1847. Other early settlers included Samuel Stephenson and his family from Kentucky; Lewis McKnight from Alabama; and George Sheppard from North Carolina. The community was named for General Robert H. Angleton who served as Commandant of Confederate forces during the American Civil War on the staff of General Joseph Johnston. Angleton began to form into a townsite about 1840 when two brothers by the name of Beavers built a log cabin on what is now Main Street near today's high school building. When their father died young they took over his farm and started a lumber business that continued until 1865 when it merged with another business to become the Central Lumber Company which still exists today as Central Lumber and Paper Company Incorporatedorporation No.: 910-A annexation date: 04/24/1920). In 1865 Jno Hudgins acquired 640 acres east of town site from Calkins & Co., ranchers then grazed their three hundred head of cattle on what became known as "Hudgins' Hill." Mr Hudgins soon leased this land to Pemberton Bros., Merchants (former owners) of Wichita Falls Activity Center south of town site where one or more stores were kept open each day during weeks long fairs held there by various groups including merchants licensed by Wichita Falls city government – an event that later became known as Municipal Fairs weekdays only excepting Saturdays when City Hall was open for meetings attended by civic representatives elected by citizens). From here trading trips taken out to Wichita Falls led postmaster George Troup down river past present day Mulberry Fork all the way back to our little corner of civilization

Angleton, Texas, is a small town located in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. It was founded in 1892 by John and Anna Angleton. The Angletons were colonists from England who arrived in what is now New Mexico during the late 1800s. They built a log cabin on the edge of a salt flat and named their community after their friend and neighbor, William Hance (1822-1909). In 1902, they erected a wooden courthouse which served as the local seat of government until it burned down in 1954. The new courthouse was constructed by the United States Postal Service and opened in 1957. The old courthouse also served as a post office for many years. In 1974, Angleton became an independent municipality under the jurisdiction of Tamaulipas County. As of 2010, its population was approximately 925 residents. The history of Angleton begins with its settlement by English colonists in 1892. By 1909, it had developed into a small town with a population of around 100 people. However, due to its location within Mexican territory at that time and lack of infrastructure such as schools or hospitals,Angleton struggled to maintain any type of growth over time. Nevertheless, it continues to play an important role within Tamaulipas County today due to its proximity to major downtownMexican Citys and its status as an agricultural center surrounded by ranching properties." Angleton was founded in 1879 by Judge James W. Angleton and his wife, Emma. The town is located in the Midland region of Texas on the banks of the Brazos River. It was named for James W. Angleton, a pioneer settler who had arrived in Texas in 1859. In 1907, Angleton became a city and seat of government. In 1959, it was merged with Amarillo to form the present-day Amarillo–Angleton metropolitan area.
