In the summer of 2017, I was elected to be one of your U.S. Senators from Arizona. Our state is home to some of the most dangerous places in the country for gun ownership and use, and I am committed to working hard to make sure that no american should ever have to face danger with their own firearm. As part of my work on gun safety, I will be fighting for new laws that will keep our firearms out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them in the first place- including criminals and mental health patients who are now able to purchase guns without prior approval from a mental health professional. My office also plans on introducing legislation that would require background checks on all gun sales, as well as increasing penalties for anyone who violates these regulations. This effort is important because it will help ensure that only those with appropriate permits or licenses are allowed to possess firearms in Arizona – making it harder for convicted criminals and terrorists to get their hands on weapons that can kill innocent people.
