The Angleton post office was established in 1881, and continued operation until it was discontinued in 1984. The community name honors Major General Edwin H. Armstrong (1846-1920), who fought in the Mexican–American War and later served as governor of Texas from 1916 to 1920. Angleton began as a small farming community located on the banks of the Colorado River near its present location. A sawmill and gristmill were built there around 1885; both are still standing today. In 1902, two businessmen pooled their resources to build the first bank in Wise County - First National Bank & Trust Company - which remains a prominent institution to this day. At that time, Angleton had only one school: A Grant School for boys opened in 1907. In 1915, when Jack Dillard became mayor of Austin, he decided to move the capital city's government out of Austin and into new headquarters within walking distance of all his constituents - including those living in Angleton - so that they could better experience their city's passing progress firsthand. He named his new development "Dillard City", after himself and Mayor Dillard's predecessor Jens Lohse (1909-1968). Aspinwall post office was established at Angleton on May 25, 1901 by order No 118 from Governor Frank Maffei with local resident John Aspinwall as first mailing agent under contract with US Postal Service #2104 dated May 25th 1901 Angleton has a rich history dating back to 1881 when it was founded by Major General Edwin H Armstrong Jr., during the Mexican American War

Angleton, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is the namesake of former U.S. Congressman and Ambassador to the United Nations Earle C. Angleton Jr.. The first settler in what would become Angleton was Wm Houstons in 1851. A post office called Angleton was established in 1857, and remained open until 1865. In 1870, John Fenton purchased land east of present-day Angleton and laid out a village named after him: Fentonville. The community gradually lost population as people moved away for better opportunities in the new century. In 1902, the city of Midland was incorporated; it included much of what is now Angleton except for a small part on the eastern edge where it merged with neighboring Lubbock to form an even larger city known as Midland/Lubbock (later Dallas). A new courthouse and jail were erected in 1908 within easy walking distance of downtown Midland; this made Angleton one of its earliest official municipalities. During World War II, local residents put their skills to use helping war production efforts by working on farms or jobs on military bases around Central Texas that were closed due to wartime restrictions on other types of work. After hostilities ended, many refugees from Europe settled here during and after the war; some brought with them their cultural values which had been deeply ingrained among their European-born counterparts since childhoods spent living primarily among Europeans who spoke different languages (and often didn't learn about America). As Angleton grew more commericalized during the postwar period (the late 1960s through early 1980s), its businesses began outsourcing manufacturing jobs overseas to countries such as China while locals struggled economically with rising property values and suburban sprawl coming into place throughout most of rural Midland County—including much of what would become DowntownAngleton—raising taxes too high for many people unable or unwilling to leave their homes for ostensibly better prospects elsewhere outsideMidland County limits (this last phenomenon being especially acute before oil prices collapsed starting in 2003). When oil prices peaked beginning in 2003–2004,[1] these trends changed abruptly as joblessness increased along with government austerity measures enacted following 9/11 attacks,[2] leading eventually to widespread layoffs across all industries both insideMidlandCounty limits[3][4][5][6] and beyond as waves of immigrants arrived seeking relief from difficult economic conditions they experienced back home.[7][8][9][10]
Angleton was founded in 1881 by John A. Angleton and his wife, Anna. The town is named after the Angleton County seat of Lubbock, Texas. It grew rapidly due to the railroads that passed through the area and became a major center for cotton production. In 1932, Angleton became an incorporated city and has since been one of its most vibrant communities.
