Hargrave was a legendary figure within the gun industry; he had founded several successful companies including Colt Firearms Company and Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester). After his passing, ownership passed down through the family until it was sold off to Henry George Elkins in 1955 under what is known as "The Great Elkins Sale." At that time, operations were moved from downtown Angleton into new facilities on Railroad Avenue adjacent to Marshall Field's store which continues today as Southgate Gun Club & Museum! Throughout its history, the Angleton News has been one of the most influential publications in town – both locally and statewide! Today it remains a primary source of information for residents and visitors alike about local politics and happenings across our great state!

The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; and 1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3% of the population
