Angleton, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The name "Angleton" originated from an Indian word meaning "place where deer are hunted." The first settler in what became Angleton was Tom Green in 1868. A post office called Angleton was established in 1871, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. In 1911, John Hargrave opened a grocery store and restaurant at the junction of FM 620 and US 281 near present-day angleton High School. For many years this business served as the primary stop for travelers on the Texan Highway system. In 1935, Hargrave sold his store to Harry Pemberton and moved his family to their current home on FM 620 just east of angleton's downtown square. Mr. Pemberton continued to operate his store until it closed its doors in 1984; since then, only one other business has operated here - Boltzmann's BBQ & Grill which opened in 2006 after being vacant for several years. Today, growth continues to be slow for Angleton as most residents remain engaged with their local economies within the community or nearby towns and cities which support them with job opportunities and services that benefit their citizens. With limited opportunity outside of town limits due primarily to lack of transportation infrastructure or development options available there is little hope that Angleton will experience significant growth over time despite efforts by its local government officials who strive valiantly to maintain some semblance of progress while they work towards better times ahead for all involved

Angleton, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named after General John A. Angleton who fought in the Mexican–American War and later served as Commanding Officer of Confederate forces in Texas during the American Civil War. Angleton's first post office opened on November 12, 1871. The town took its name from General John A. Angleton because he fought in the Mexican-American War and helped lead Confederate forces to victory over Union forces at San Jacinto River. The first settler in Angleton was John Dickey who came to what is now angleton in 1872 with his family. In 1907, Jock Mahon opened a grocery store that remains open today and is one of the most important businesses in town today. Jock Mahon also built two churches: First Baptist Church which still stands and currently used as a schoolhouse; and Second Baptist Church which was torn down but has been replaced by a new church building that is now used as a library/conference center/cafeteria complex/. In 1969, angleton had its own water supply system when Houston Community Water Supply District (HCWD) merged into System Utilities District 2 (SUD2). In 1978, HCWD split into two separate companies when System Utilities District 3 (SUD3) was created - angleton became SUD4 whileHouston remained HCWD's largest customer until it merged with Alliant Energy on January 1st 1999 to form TXMHPHB . On July 15th 2009 TXMHPHB announced their intent to withdraw from all public service within TXMHPHB effective September 1st 2009 due to budget cuts which would have eliminated most of their employees including many of their customers - this left only those working for TXMHPHB itself remaining - this included the mayor who continued serving under an interim government until May 2013 when he resigned effective June 30th 2013 due to term limits set by state statute
Angleton, Texas was founded in 1879 by J.C. Angleton and his wife, Sarah. The town grew quickly as settlers arrived from the surrounding areas of East Texas and Southwestern Oklahoma to build farms and businesses. In 1886, Angleton became a county seat after it was chosen as the site for a new courthouse. The courthouse burned down in 1902, but the town continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1910.
