Angleton is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Williamson and Galveston counties. The first recorded inhabitants of what is now Angleton were Native Americans who lived near the mouth of the Buffalo Bayou before European settlement began. In 1836, John Clements sold land to Captain James Fenton for $10 per acre. When Fenton died in 1837, his nephew Sam Houston claimed the land for himself. Houston named it after him, angling it to be an illustrious name that would bring attention to his claim. Houston's heirs sold large tracts of land around Angleton until 1881 when they ceded all their holdings back to James Fenton Jr., who had originally bought them from Houston's heirs in 1836. The town was platted in 1886 by Jno Waddell and A.J.(Fletcher) Hutton as part of a larger area known as Nacogdoches Center which included present-day Galveston and Corpus Christi areas then part of Mexico City Province under Spanish rule. In 1932, Angleton became one of sixteen townships within the new Harris Teeter State Park system when statehood was granted to Texas; however, no retail stores were opened within the park until 1955 when Kress Brothers Enterprises purchased a large tract adjacent to Harris Teeter Park for development into what is now known as Angleton Plaza mall which served as anchor tenant throughout its years of operation (1955-1999). A major redevelopment project begun in 2001 called Phase III brought over 3 million square feet (280 housing units) and 5 million dollars worth of businesses and services including two grocery stores (Albertsons and Kroger), two cafeterias (Carrabba’s Italian Kitchen & Peak Bakehouse), three movie theaters (Loenig’s Theaters IMAX & Regal Cinemaplex), six restaurants including Red Lobster/Long Beach Pizza Place/Pizza Hut/Wendy’s Plus/, five gas stations plus convenience store( Exxon Mobil station open since 1978) with over 6500 parking spaces total comprising Phase III redevelopment bringing much needed jobs downtown during this time period while also enhancing infrastructure such as resurfacing streetscape beginning in 2007Phase IV has seen more commercial development with Clarion Valley Mall anchored by Sears being developed across four blocks north along FM 1960 just east off US 59S next door to Piggly Wiggly restaurant attractive property line added Frontage Road borders shopping center providing much needed amenities for citizens Downtown including library collection available 24 hours free from county courthouse library also offers internet access throughout entire city

The brothers were among the earliest investors in cotton production east of Houston, and their company would soon become one of the largest cotton producers in America thanks to its innovative marketing schemes that targeted eastern railroads with shipments of high-quality crops at depressed prices while keeping shipping rates low so that farmers could afford to buy stocks needed for planting). In 1902, when Rice University moved from its original home on State Highway 3 (now Main Street) within walking distance of downtown Angleton to its current location on University Boulevard just outside town limits, Monsanto donated land across from Rice for use as a campus—the first university campus in Texas! Angleton has experienced many significant milestones over its past century: 1938 saw construction begin on Memorial Coliseum – later renamed “The Cotton Bowl” – which would serve as both home field and training ground for several professional teams over ensuing decades; 1978 saw enactment legislation creating Waller County Plaza – now known simply as “The Mall” - which anchors anglers' access points along streams & rivers within county boundaries; 1986 marked the opening day of NAFTA – one year before FDA approval helped make genetically modified foods available nationwide…the list goes on!

In 1874, the town incorporated as a city and developed into one of the most powerful political centers in southern Texas.
