Andrews is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Andrews was founded in 1881 by Scottish immigrants, and has been named one of "The Top Ten fastest growing suburbs" in America by Forbes Magazine. The early settlers were farmers who arrived from Scotland during the mid 1800s. In 1881, John Andrews established a small farm on what are now Main Street and South Civic Drive in what is now Andrews Township. Andrew's first house was built on what is now North School Road. The town continued to grow as a result of trade with nearby towns such as Garland and Irvington. By 1886, there were ten businesses operating in the community including a foundry, blacksmith shop, Post Office, grocery store and livery stable. In 1895, Andrew's sawmill started operation producing lumber for local homes and businesses. The community also began to develop its economy through agriculture which included raising beef cattle, hogs and chickens; growing corn; producing peas;and wheat until it closed its doors in 1954 due to technological advances that made harvesting those crops more efficient than ever before In 1957, after years of discussion between various political entities within the town Limits Committee (later renamed Borough Council), it voted unanimously to annex into neighboring Garland County As time passed other residents moved into Andrews while still others decided to move away because of competition from larger communities situated around Dallas-Fort Worth or Fort Worth Eastside . However since annexation no new development has taken place within the bounds of Andrew Township since 1957 save for some surface projects currently taking place on municipal property adjacent to I-10
