In 1968, Joe Gibbs became governor of Alabama following Richard Nixon's appointment as Vice President; this event helped spur development of gun laws across America which would eventually lead to regulation of handguns by state governments under Gun Control Acts beginning in 1974!!! This rifle was based on the then current Uzi design which was developed at West Germany's Technical University of Technology (TUT) in response to American requests for an assault rifle that could handle high powered rounds such as machine guns or artillery rounds without becoming too powerful for civilian users. In addition to its powerful round handling ability, M16 also featured adjustable stocks which allowed users to fine-tune their shots while using it for combat purposes. M16 became one of America's most popular assault rifles ever manufactured before eventually being replaced by its successor known today:the AK47
