Randolph had been born in Andrews in 1885 and attended school there until the age of 12 when he moved with his family to Sherman so he could be closer to family members back home. After graduating from high school, Randolph took odd jobs until he started working for Jarvis Printing Co., which later became JCPenney Corporation.' He served as president of JCPenney from 1961-1972 and then retired after a fifty year career with the company.' In retirement, Randolph devoted himself to giving back to the community; he organized several Andrew's Christmas lights displays each year during December.' The town rapidly grew, becoming one of the most populous small towns in Texas during the late 1800s and early 1900s. By 1920, Andrews had become an important center for cotton production and commerce. The town's success led to its annexation by Arlington in 1930, marking the beginning of a period of growth and prosperity for Andrews that continued until the early 2000s.
