On July 12 they reached Warrensburg Junction where they divided their forces: Powell’s party continued southwest downriver while General Hugh Thomas's force went east upriver until they met at Glenpool River Crossing about 20 miles southeast of present day Wichita Falls on August 8th near what is now known as White Sands National Monument#4 United States Geological Survey map #USGS-10482729 which forms today's south boundary line between Arkansas County, NM and Tarrant County TX
