Amarillo, Texas is home to the oldest gun magazine in the United States. The Amarillo Rifle and Pistol Club (ARPC) was founded in 1892 by a group of gentlemen who wanted to provide a forum forgun enthusiasts of all ages. The club has been holding annual meetings since 1907 and publishes the monthly Amarillo Rifle Journal. In 1984, the club purchased its first building, which still stands today. The current building was designed by architect Edward J. Smith and is used as the clubhouse and event space for the ARPC’s annual Gun Show calendar.

Amarillo, Texas is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,601 at the 2010 census. Amarillo's nickname is "The Bulldog of the Plains." The history of Amarillo starts with pioneer settlers who arrived in 1846. The town was founded on November 15 of that year by John Fenton and his wife Sarah. On December 10th, 1847, Fenton donated land to the City of Amarillo for development as a town. The first post office opened in 1848 and the first store was built in 1850. By 1860, there were over 100 residents living in what is now Amarillo. In 1865, an act passed by the Texas Legislature designated the area around present-day Amarillo as Midland County and named it after James K. Polk which was then governor of Texas at the time. In 1893, Mayor A W Brownell founded Midland College which became one of the largest colleges west of Interstate 20. After World War II ended,amarillo exploded with growth due to its manufacturing base and energy resources generated from oil production beginning in 1948-1949 courtesy of Kerr-McGee Corporation who operated their refinery until 1984 when it closed permanently due to pollution problems caused by open air burning operations which created one million metric tons/year (molecular weight) carbon dioxide equivalent). Manufacturing continued until about 2000 when most jobs moved offshore to Mexico or other countries where wages are much lower than American standards
