The history of clothing in Amarillo, Texas goes back many years. One of the first stores to sell firearms was The Gunsmith’s Shop on Elm Street in 1892. The shop was open until 1961 and sold rifles, shotguns, handguns, ammunition, and other firearm-related products. In 1903, a gunsmith named W.C. Moss opened his own store on Third Street called The Rifle Place. This store became one of the most popular in Amarillo for selling firearms because it had a large selection of rifle and shotgun models as well as handguns. In 1907, Moss passed away and his son Harry took over the business from him. From then until 1991, Harry Moss ran the store alone but he also donated all proceeds from sales to local charities. In 1984, Harry Moss’ widow died and their children inherited the store but they closed it down in 1991 due to financial problems. One of the first businesses to sell clothing related to Firearms was Jiggs & Jones on Elm Street in 1918 which became known as the Armory Store due to its extensive inventory of weaponry including pistols and rifles. This store also became one of the most popular locations for buying firearms because they had an extensive selection both new and used items alike along with knowledgeable staff members who were able to help shoppers find what they were looking for. Jiggs & Jones is still open today and sells a wide variety of firearm-related products such as ammunition, apparel, tools (including Firearmsmithing supplies), cars/trucks/vans/boats etc., among others! During World War II (1939-1945), several Japanese American families living in Amarillo started selling firearms through their homes while they were held at military camps during that time period – this included individuals named Abeo Shigeru born 1935 who worked at Midland Chemical Company; Minoru Suzuki born 1937 who worked at Ford Motor Company; Takeo Shimomura born 1939 who worked for General Dynamics Corporation; Toshio Yamamoto born 1941 who worked for Matsushita Electric Manufacturing Company; Kenji Abe 1945–1948 working at Mitsubishi Motors Corporation; Nobuo Nakamura 1948–1951 working at Kawasaki Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.; Hiroshi Kato 1951–1954 working at Nissan Motors Corporation etc… These individuals went by various names including Gents Firearms Sales Department (Genshad) or Home Sales Department (Homesoda). During this time period there were also several local retailers throughout Amarillo which operated similar businesses such as Goudy’s Sporting Goods on Second Street which specialized in Ammunition sales along with Joe’s Sporting Goods next door which sold gunsand ammunition only!
