In all, Mustangs killed more than 600 Americans before finally being driven from Texas by Union troops in 1865. Following the war, Alvin experienced an economic boom thanks to new industry such as cotton farming and cattle ranching. However, this prosperity came at a cost: racism started becoming rampant during this time period and many African Americans were discriminated against outright. This made life difficult for these minority groups who were often forced into poverty or worse working alongside their white counterparts。 Finally aware of this problem, Mayor John Lubbock founded The Negro American Committee in 1923 to try and change things for good within the community]. The Alvin, Texas area has a long and diverse history. The area was first populated by the Creek Indian tribe and then by the early settlers of what is now Texas. In 1836, the Mexican-American War began and soon after, many Texans decided to migrate to what would become Texas. Some of these new Texans arrived in small groups while others traveled large distances. By 1840, most of the people who had migrated to Texas were living in present day Alvin. In 1850, the United States acquired what is now Mexico City from Spain as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This event led to much tension between Mexico and Great Britain over this territory. The US claimed this land as part of their newly gained territory in Southwest America. This area included parts of today’s Alvin, TX as well as other areas such as Austin and San Antonio. The population of Alvin grew rapidly during this time because many people wanted a piece of this new country that was being created for them. In 1857, Kansas became an Independent Republic and some residents in central Texas voted to join this state instead of becoming a part of Great Britain or Mexico following this event. After several years of discussion about whether or not to secede from Kansas, the decision was made to do so on November 3rd, 1861. On November 10th, 1861, Kansas entered into a Union with the United States via an act known as “the Compromise Of New York” which granted slavery free treatment within Kansas until it could be decided if it should continue into Oklahoma Territory or become a free state within the Union (this situation would eventually change). By 1865, many people in eastern Oklahoma had left forTexas because they found out that there would be no chance for them to stay in Oklahoma if slavery continued in California (this situation would eventually change). Many more people moved westward into what is now western Arkansas when news reached them that California was going through major trouble (this situation would also eventually change).Throughout all these changes at home and abroad, Alvin stuck around because it seemed like things were always changing but never really changed too much overall (although some did move away during big events such As World War II).
