In 1951-1952 three new police officers were hired and additional precincts were established including Patrol East (now west side patrol), Patrol West (now east side patrol) and Crime Control Unit One (later changed to Crime Control Unit Two). In 1961-1962 four more police officers were hired; these officers would be called “the expansion brigade” because they functioned as part of both Patrol units within each precinct as well as Crime Control Units outside of their respective precincts altogether
