Allen is a city in the county oftx-eastern Brazos, Texas, United States. The population was 3,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first recorded settlement in what is now Allen was made on September 12, 1836 by Capt. James A. Johnston and his party from Missouri under the command of Col. John Murtaugh when they landed at what is now Gray's Bluff on the Sanitarium River just north of present day Round Rock center. They named their new town after General Sam Houston who had recently been appointed commander-in-chief of all Union forces in Texas during the Mexican War (1846-48). In 1849, General Sam Houston ordered Captain Johnston to rename his new town "Allen". When Indian removal began in 1890, much to the chagrin of many local citizens and farmers alike, Allen became one of several small towns within Cherokee County that were abruptly left behind as federal agents confiscated all Cherokee County land west of Baylor University campus including most or all homes and businesses within a short distance of downtown Allen. For nearly three decades no one living within those immediate vicinity could be found to answer questions about why such an event took place or even understand its motive other than speculation that it may have been done with political retribution for continued civilian opposition to federally sponsored Indian Removal policies which were met with strong resistance by many Texans beyond simply rural residents who saw little benefit to themselves economically from forced displacement and wholesale destruction of their homes and communities.. In 1935 when Congressman Preston Brooks initiated legislation (Public Law 97-362) designating November 15th as National Indians Day – an event commemorated annually throughout America by proclamation -Allen finally came into compliance with US Territory laws having been so incorporation occurred on November 15th more than two decades earlier on October 5th actually .. On August 29, 1957 a tornado struck central TX damaging over 100 homes dating back to before the turn of the century – some destroyed completely while others suffered only partial damage .. Allen experienced its first hurricane season on May 30 - June 2nd when Rita blew away entire trees off Main Street killing two people & seriously injuring eleven others.. Tornadoes also struck late summer 1961 & early fall 1968 killing five people including three children killed by tornados near Dimmit City; January 1969 markedyear’s deadliest tornado outbreak but that year’s killer stormbarely missed town confines; however there were no fatalities reported during 1970s wetter years

Austin also experienced rapid growth following World War II thanks to its location near numerous military installations and its status as the cultural capital of Texas. Many famous musicians (including Willie Dixon and Ray Charles) chose to call Austin home while performing or teaching music lessons; these days the city hosts several annual music festivals including ACL Alive! and SXSW Interactive events throughout the year. In recent years, Austin has become well-known for hosting large global events such as United Arab Emirates' ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's official visit back in 2016 or North American Soccer League championship game between Toronto FC and Columbus Crew SC last season which saw Houston Dynamo win 4-1 on aggregate over Seattle Sounders FC

In 1865, Allen became a county seat and began to grow as a farming community. A post office was established in 1867 and growing crops were an important part of its economy until around 1930 when oil production came to the town.
