Allen, Texas is located in west-central Texas and is the smallest county in the state. As of the 2010 census, its population was 932. The county seat is Emporia. Allen was created on November 3, 1836 from parts of Travis County and Bowie County. It was named for General James K. Allen by the Due West Company as a reward for his successful defense of San Antonio against Mexican forces in 1835. The first white person to reside in what is now Allen County was John Wesley Hardin, who settled there around 1814 near present day Hearne. He built a log cabin and called it Cedar Creek Station. A post office was established at Cedar Creek Station on October 12, 1840, under the name of Fort Worth. The first resident school teacher in what is now Allen Counties was Willis Hite who taught at nearby White Oak School from 1840 to 1845 before moving to Palestine Academy where he continued teaching until his death in 1890. In 1846 General George Brown's army burned all buildings within 10 miles of Austin when it moved through central Texas during its campaign against Mexico; this included Cedar Creek Station which then remained unaltered for over 50 years until it became part of the new town of Austin after that city's establishment (see Townsite History). At that time Cedar Creek Station probably consisted only of an old cabin with some outbuildings and a few cows/pets living among some oak trees on current day US Highway 183 south side just east of I-10 about 8 mi southwest of downtown Austin (the location where Buffalo Bill Cody set up his ranch which later became University Park). In 1922 Custer Day Parade route changed from Main Street SW towards Haggen Road due to sharp turns made by cavalry while traveling along I-10 known locally as "Custer's Curve". Today much or all original infrastructure including schoolhouses remains inside today's Googleplex complex adjacent wife garden property off Elmhurst Rd east side just northwest corner entrance Drive between Research Dr and Spruce St
