In 1879, a group of men and boys from Texas founded the town of Allen in present-day Jasper County. The town was named for General John A. Allen, who had led the Texas Rangers during the Indian Wars.

On November 9th, 1907, Texas Governor John Connally dedicated the new John F Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum on Main Street just northeast of downtown Allen - one of only two presidential libraries ever built in Texas (the other being Lyndon Johnson’s LBJ Presidential Library & Museum near Houston). The library opened its doors to visitors on December 5th - making it one of the earliest presidential libraries open to the public outside Washington D.C.. For almost sixty years, President Lyndon Johnson used his office Building on Main Street as his home while he lived between Dallas and Austin - until he moved into his current home north of Interstate 35W near Fort Worth on April 12th, 2008 . Allen, Texas is a small town in the east-central portion of the United States. It was founded in 1881 by entrepreneur and cattle rancher James H. Allen as a ranching community on the eastern edge of present day Wichita Falls, Texas. The name Austin originated from the location where Texas State Capital, Austin, now stands. In 1907, Allen donated land to build what would become Baylor University; the school's first building was erected in 1909. The town experienced rapid growth during World War II when thousands of soldiers arrived to work on defense industries and farms in nearby Wichita Falls and Amarillo. While some residents moved away during that time, most continued to grow through post-war years with new development including retail stores, industrial parks, and residential subdivisions. In recent decades, Allen has seen steady economic growth as its local businesses have created jobs for many people locally and across the state. Its downtown is home to several large businesses including Bank of America (now JPMorgan Chase) and American Ethanol which manufactures ethanol for gasoline production purposes. Allen was founded in 1836 by John H. Allen and his brother, James H. Allen. The town was named after John H. Allen's father, who had settled in the area in 1814. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century because of its strategic location at the crossroads of several wagon routes and its position as an important trading post on the Brazos River. In 1902, the town petitioned for incorporation and was granted a charter two years later. In 1908, the city of Allen became boundary lines between Houston and Dallas when they were created as independent municipalities.
