The town was founded in 1871 by John Witherspoon and his family. The name Alice comes from Alice Springs, Australia. The Witherspoons were pioneers in this region and had a store and post office in nearby Plano until they sold their land to become Alice Township in 1875. In 1907, the town became Alice City after it passed through an act of the state legislature which changed the name of McLennan County to that of Carroll County for all citizens having citizenship within that county. 1st Lt Curtin Dickson (USMC) who fought during World War II at Iwo Jima died here on December 10th, 1945 aged 45 years old In 1944, local artist Billie Holiday recorded her song "A Hard Day's Night" at Bob Hope's ranch here while he was vacationing with comedian Milton Berle and his wife Verna Hill Berle (1912-1996). This event served as inspiration for Elvis Presley's song "I Gotta Get Outta Here". Bob Hope also entertained President Eisenhower on two occasions while he was visiting Alice City: one occasion on October 9th 1954 when he performed a show before Ike's motorcade drove into Arlington Cemetery; and another occasion on May 6th 1957 when he presented Eleanor Roosevelt with a silver key ring commemorating her work on behalf of education during her time as First Lady of America. On November 12th 2007, Governor Greg Abbott announced that Alice would be receiving its own well known school system – Annunciation Catholic High School – making it one of only three such schools within McLennan County!

Alice, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,100 at the 2000 census. Alice is located on the banks of the Arkansas River. It was named for Alice Huntress, who fought in the Mexican-American War and received a Medal of Honor for her heroism. The first settler in Alice was George McCoy, who arrived in 1847 from Kentucky. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. The first postmaster in Alice was John Hodge, who served from 1851 to 1862. A sawmill and gristmill were erected around 1850 by James Fenton and Wm. Covington respectively; these mills continued operation until about 1900 when they were replaced by a one-story high school and church (the present First Baptist Church). In 1865, Drury Lane Methodist Episcopal Church (founded in 1863) moved to Alice from Fort Worth because of the hostility between Methodists and Baptists over slavery issues.
