When Alice, Texas was founded in 1881, the town had a population of just over 20. The town sprung up around an oil well and refinery that were discovered in nearby Vernon County. The first residents of Alice were men who worked at the oil well and refinery. Over time, the women who lived in Alice began to bring their families here as well. During the early years of Alice’s existence, there wasn’t a lot of commerce happening in the town so most people depended on agriculture for their income. However, as oil production increased in Vernon County, businesses started to pop up throughout the community and this led to more jobs and more money for residents. With all these new opportunities came also some new challenges- such as crime rates becoming high due to competition from other towns with much bigger populations. Despite these problems though, many people managed to stay Positive through it all. In fact, many residents even became involved in politics which helped keep things moving forward including forming a local fire department and eventually becoming mayor!

Alice, Texas is a small town in Vernon County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2000 census. Alice is located in the extreme east corner of Vernon County and is surrounded by Baylor University's campus to the north and west, cattle ranching to the south and east, and Brushy Creek to the south-west. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in Alice was David Travis who arrived in 1872. In 1876, James Braid arrived with his family from Illinois. In 1902 Johnnie Barnes purchased a farmstead near Alice from developers Drummond & Sons for $1,000 dollars. Barnes built a two-story frame house on this property that still stands today as an example of Bungalow architecture in Texas. In 1924 Harry Haughton bought land adjoining Barnes' property for $10 per acre which he developed into what is now known as Alice Springs Ranch State Park (formerly called Alice Downs). This park provides parkland upon which live hogs and other livestock while also providing access to Brushy Creek for fishing, swimming and skating during winter months. In 1965 Alice Downs apartments were added to the park making it one of only a few complexes of its type in America at that time; these units are now known as "Hugh Jackman Villas." The park has since been developed into more than 10 acres with various amenities including tennis courts (added in 1995), six golf courses (four open to public use), hiker/biker trails (including one loop around Hugh Jackman Villa), picnic areas with grills or fire pits for picnics, waterfalls nearby and restaurants within easy walking distance including Ruby Tuesday's steakhouse on Hugh Jackman Villa's exterior overlooks Brushy Creek throughout much of its course - perfect forGourmet Gurls get together!

The first post office was established in Alice on October 9, 1881. The population of Alice reached a peak of 154 in the 1930s and 1940s but has since declined. The town is currently composed of only a handful of homes and businesses. The community took its name from Alice Gordon Burdick, who served as the wife of General Alfred Miles Burdick during the Waco siege that occurred between February 6-8, 1993.
