Alice, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. It was founded by the Methodist Church in 1883. The first post office was established in Alice on July 6, 1887. The population of Alice increased to over 100 residents by 1907. In 1915, the town became an independent school district and has continued to grow since then. The current mayor is Donnellie Witherspoon and the current school board is made up of nine members. Alice, Texas is a town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,531 at the 2010 census. Alice is located on the north side of the Brazos River and east of Houston. It was founded in 1872 by Captain David Fenton and other pioneers as a post office called "Alice." The name may come from Alice Springs in Australia or Alice Branch in Montgomery County, Kentucky. The first house in Alice was built by Capt David Fenton in 1872. In 1875, John Bigham bought land adjacent to that of Capt Fenton and started to build a farm there. When he died soon after, his wife took over the farm and continued to run it until her death in 1936. In 1907 local entrepreneurs Willard and Milton Morse donated $40,000 for a school district which would become Brazoria-Houston Independent School District (BHISD). The donation allowed BHISD to open its doors on October 1st, 1907 with thirty students from ten different towns participating. On December 2nd 1898 WFAA Radio Corporation signed an agreement with JFBC Radio Corporation (a predecessor of KTRK-TV) to lease air time for one hour each day for ninety days from December 16th through January 6th for educational purposes only; this was part of JFBC's attempt to start up a national network during those early years when radio wasn't considered just another form of communication but something more important than just music and news dissemination On February 22nd 1927 Rev Dwayne Hinton became the first black pastor of First Baptist Church of Alice when he accepted an invitation given by Rev James Lillard who had also been invited by KTRK TV station owner George Noland as well as Dr Toney Toddler who served as preacher at First Baptist Church Of Houston which later became Ebenezer Baptist Church .
