The creek's namesake, Alice Denton, donated land to the town for a cemetery. The first school in Alice was built on property donated by Mrs. Clementson in 1886. In 1907, the First Baptist Church moved into the town and served as its primary church until 1970 when it merged with the Methodist Church of Hood County to form one large church body. In 1911, JB Waddell started a millinery store on Main Street near present-day Highway 35E which became one of Hood County's most successful businesses until it closed down in 1991 due to economic conditions unrelated toilletey or local politics; Waddell had been very successful running his store out of his home rather than an outside business venture because he felt that this type of business could only thrive within a close-knit community such as himself and his wife Susie’s (Luce) husband Charlie’s (Moses) lodge west of downtown unable to compete with larger chains like Sam’s Club or Sears & Roebuck although they were open six days a week). After Waddell’s store closed down, other businesses began moving into what would become known as “the old district” around Highways 35W and 36N including Piggly Wiggly Supermarket which opened its doors on May 8th 1946 just east of present day Highway 35E across from Sears/Roebuck headquarters; prior thereto there had been several individually owned stores scattered throughout central Hood County operated by farmers who obtained licenses to sell grocery items outdoors only after their barnyards were fenced off; these stores generally sold hardware such as nails facility building materials bedding notions etc., however many stopped selling products once they got licensed due principally to high competition from Texans A&M University(now Baylor University), now One Hundred Fifty Eight Corporation(formerly Texarkana Business Park Iberia Rd #226), Keith Bros Clothing Store (later renamed Gossage Shoe Store), White Sands Coffee Shop (later renamed Donelson Hardware) all situated within walking distance of each other making shopping much more cumbersome than it already was especially since mom & pop operations couldn't keep up with increased competition feeding off national recession atmosphere On December 15th 1951 an event occurred that would forever change life at Alice when Piggly Wiggly Supermarket became operational giving people another option besides mom & pop operations during pre-recession times western hood county wasn't completely reliant on mom & pop operations we had transient workers coming into our area doing oddjobs while their families went searching for work elsewhere so when mom finally found out about her son working at Piggly wiggle she decided she'd better get used to the idea being that without dad around there wouldn't be anything else for her son either so upon hearing about Piggley wiggle opening up next door she quickly organized a garage sale inside her house going against all odds but eventually prevailed forcing mom back inside where she remained until her death in 2006 As mentioned earlier various small businesses sprung up throughout downtownAlice early 70's initially catering mainlyto easterners visiting hood county during summer months but soon started offering productsavailableacrossstatesincludingOKLAHOMAandTX

Alice, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,844 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. Alice is named after Alice Rice, who settled here in 1856. The first white person to live in what is now Alice was John McLaughlin in 1868. He and his family also built the first schoolhouse there. In 1872 Jno Tompkins founded the post office and store there which continued until 1907 when it was discontinued due to low mail volume. In 1886 the railroad arrived and soon Alice had a busy station with several passenger trains going through each day from Dallas-Fort Worth (now Dallas–El Paso). The community grew quickly as people came to work on the nearby plantations or on construction projects around town. By 1902Alice had two schools: one for girls and one for boys. A year later a church was built with help from Mrs Ransom Hodge of Fort Worth and by 1908 all of Hudspeth County had its own telephone system! Population growth slowed during World War II as many men were drafted into military service or used their skills on farms back home; however, by 1960 Alice had increased to its current size with over 3,000 residents! After years of decline during the early 1990s due to economic problems within both local businesses and rural counties statewide, things began to turn around in 2001 when Bob Dole became President of America and made energy reform an important plank of his campaign platform; this helped spur investment into local economy that has seen significant growth ever since!
