Alice, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Alice was founded in 1876 by Captain John Hargrave and his wife Jane as a tiny trading post on the banks of Buffalo Bayou. By 1880, Alice had become a small but busy community with hotels, stores and a school. In 1911, Alice was chosen as the location for Fort Worth's new Federal Reserve Bank. More than twenty years later, on July 16th, 1955, Fort Worth's first suburban shopping mall opened its doors to the public- becoming one of the earliest such malls in North America. That same year also saw Alice's incorporation into Hudspeth County and its designation as a townspeople's village under then-County Commissioner George Prentice. The townsite growth continued through the 1960s and 1970s when businesses began to move out of Alice into newer neighborhoods closer to downtown Fort Worth or Dallas across Buffalo Bayou or Highway 83 (now I-35). However during that time there were few major changes occurred within Alice itself other than some name changes (such as from "Alice" to "Fort Worth"). Throughout most of this time there were sporadic scares throughout the community due to evolving mass panic attacks called "Amber Alerts" which would suddenly activate across large swathes of texas based on unsubstantiated sightings or information leading up to their occurrence - usually involving young children playing outside at night or locals hiking off Highway 183 near FM 651 in rural areas not accessible by car. In 2001 an Amber Alert scare evacuation order was put into effect following an unrelated shooting that took place just outside town limits; however no child was ever found injured or taken away in connection with this incident CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION It seemed like every month there would be something new happening around here- something exciting enough that people started talking about moving out West! What they didn't know is that whenever they did leave everything behind they'd have to start all over again from scratch! For example: When they finally decided it was time for them all move out West after 25 years...a whole bunch of stuff had changed! They left behind their homes and friends back home….and their memories too! But what about our history? How did we get here? And more importantly: Who knows what could happen next?!” These questions plagued many residents of Alice throughout much of 2007 as preparations for Hurricane Ike began; however little did anyone know just how prophetic these words actually were……… On August 29th 2007 two days before Ike made landfall along portions of Texas Gulf Coast,[1] fears became reality when sections of eastern Hudspeth County went dark following reports of power lines down[2]. With only minutes remaining before Ike made landfall residents quickly vacated their homes and headed towards Interstate 35E which would provide access to safe refuge[3]. This evacuation marked one percent chance in 800 million chances that any given person would be able to escape without being impacted by Ike[4], yet it still led some people who lived closest to where power lines crossed onto interstate 35E – including some who still vividly remember those long seconds before darkness descended upon them………….. As night deepened citizens retreated even further east onto I-35E whereupon several loud explosions could be heard coming from nearby farms….. Nearby police officers arrived on scene soon after findingwhat appearedtobeexplosives detonating………. A total lackadaisical attitude towards safety eventually resulted in $100 million worth damage done both physically and financially during this chaotic period…………….. Finally things calmed down somewhat over Labor Day weekend 2009 when authorities announced plans for reconstruction beginning early next year…………………………………… Although much has changed since then such as market values increasing 5x overnight due To Hurricane Harvey[5] – many residents continue living close proximity together recalling happy times shared while waiting for change
