Alice, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,671 at the 2010 census. The Alice post office was established on November 3, 1881. It was renamed to Alice on December 5 of that year. The town seat is located in Alice. The first settler in Alice was Hiram Hogg. He and his family moved to Alice from Missouri in 1881. In 1905, the Pemberton-Kennedy family built a farmstead east of the post office and named it after their mother: Pemberton (1849-1920) and her husband John Kennedy (1853-1929). For many years the only store in town was Mrs. Kapp's General Store & Bakery which opened in 1903 when Fannie Kapp donated land for the store across from her home on Main Street. In 1926, Atchison Topeka Lumber Company also opened a sawmill south of town near North High School with a lumberyard adjacent to it which continued until 1984 when it closed due to pollution problems caused by nearby industry including arsenic levels high enough to require removal of trees without damage! In 1951, Alice incorporated as an unincorporated community with its own board of trustees under state law then changed its name back to Alice on July 15 following successful voter referendum approval by both local and state officials On October 9th 1956 two small jets collided over Arkansas while flying training missions for Air America; one exploded over British Columbia killing all 25 people onboard and injuring 198 others On October 10th 1966 three astronauts aborted their mission during launch rehearsal at Cape Canaveral air force Station after experiencing engine trouble less than five minutes before launch; this event became known as "The Day After". This accident led eventually to McDonnell Douglas Corporation merging with Boeing Aircraft Company eleven years later . Al Bielefeld who owned property adjacent to where jetfuel had been burned off filed suit against Republic Airlines Corporation alleging negligence resulting in death of his son Polish fighter pilot Stanisław Bielefeld during takeoff at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport about 2½ hours prior thereto . Al Bielefeld won $1 million dollars plus punitive damages but died shortly thereafter before trial could begin
