Alice, Texas is the only municipality in Ellis County, Texas and the county seat of Alice. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Alice was known as a stop on the stagecoach route between Dallas and Houston. The first settlers in Alice were citizens of New Mexico who arrived in 1827. A post office called Alice was established in 1828, but it did not remain open long because of competition from Bosque City, which had been established earlier that year. In 1830, John Nolen purchased land east of present-day Alice from José Castro for $1 per acre In 1835, James Fenton acquired additional land east of present-day Alice for $2 per acre. In 1840, Nathaniel Beal became the first settler west of Buffalo Bayou when he bought land west ofpresent-day Little Elm from José Castro for $4 per acre In 1849–50 Wm. Hogg completed construction of what is now known as Loop 610 North between Bowie and San Antonio; this road connected Fort Worth to San Antonio and later served as an important trade corridor connecting different parts of Texas On July 12th 1862 Colonel Richard Ewell Kimball ordered all male civilian residents between age 21 and 55 years old to leave their homesilden around town if they owned property outside the confines of town limits; this order led to many people leaving their homes behind and raising livestock within town limits instead
