However, about 300 men from Travis County unit I Comanche decided to stay behind to protect what remained of San Antonio aprtment during the siege; these men are considered Heroes Of The Alamo. In 1948 two cannons captured from Mexican soldiers while they triedto burn down the old fortifications led to renewed interest in preserving and restoring the walls surrounding the complex today. In 1951 an amendment became effective which banned racial discrimination within Texas public institutions including schools (thus ensuring that black students could attend white schools up until then). This amendment also authorized $5 million for renovation/replacement/updating of all state buildings statewide—a commitment that continues even today! As part of commemorating 200 years since Texan independence from Spain (November 6th–6th) various events have taken place throughout much different parts of our state such as historical reenactments or concerts highlighting important aspects associated with both our history and contemporary culture within our diverse community…What an amazing anniversary we have!
