Addison is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. Addison is part of the Tyler–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Addison is known for itsADDISON candy company and as the home of Baylor University. Addison was founded by John Addison in 1836 as a small town on the edge of what is now Fort Worth. By 1860, the town had grown to encompass present-day Addison, along with parts of Richardson and Wise counties to the east and west. A post office was established in 1868, and by 1870 it had become an important center for cattle operations on the Trinity River ranchlands around Fort Worth. In 1876, local businessman Amos Kendall organized a group that purchased land southeast of Addison from William Hogg for $2,000 and began development of Kendall Park; today's Kendall Drive runs through the heart of downtown Addison. In 1902, when oil was discovered near Fort Worth (the first such discovery in Texas), improvements were made to add oil rigs to local businesses so that production could be increased rapidly; this led to an increase in business activity throughout much of Tarrant County which stimulated growth within Addison itself. However, World War I halted economic growth until after 1918 when prices rose again due largely to American entry into World War II; during this time major construction projects took place including the erection of new pumpskins buildings at Baylor University (1948) and additions to both Richardson High School (1949) and TCU's Main Campus (1950). After years characterized by steady decline - Population size decreased from 730 in 2000 Census count down 503 (-8%) according as 2005 estimate - there has been recent resurgence with population reaching 682 (+5%) as 2018 estimate

Addison is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1853 by citizens of nearby Denton. Addison is the seat of Williamson County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 8,812. It is the smallest municipality in Texas and has only 1 square mile (0.4 km²) of land area. The name "Addison" comes from General George Washington's 1799 visit to this area and his observation that "the place looked like an addition to Philadelphia." The first settler in Addison was John Hodge who arrived in 1853 with his family from Virginia. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street and named it Hodge's Landing after himself and his son-in-law, James Hodge Sr.. In 1857, Amos Hatch became the second settler in Addison when he reached out from Denton for help with building a road to serve his new community. The first store opened at Hatch's Landing on October 5, 1857. By 1860 there were 11 stores open in Addison with two others licensed as post offices: One operated by John Auld as Addisons Post Office #1 and one by David Rodgers as Rodgers Post Office #2 He also started construction on what would become known as the "Hutchinson Dam". Completed early 1861 but not used until 1865 due to flooding caused by heavy rains during the American Civil War In 1861–1862 Sampson McCoy established an agricultural cooperative known as First National Agricultural Company which produced corn meal and flour for local markets McCoy sold most of his shares within 2 years though some continued operations through 1865 John Waddell also began farming here around this time Waddell renamed his farm White Sands Ranch after Spanish Fort which was located about 8 miles east of where Addison now stands
