It was originally built as a rifle and pistolnery school. The first red dot sight that was built within the armory was a Weaver-Binet model T3H device. This sight had a black dot reticle and could be calibrated to 0 to 100 yards. The T3H sight became known as the “Addison Red Dot” because it was used at the armory by marksmen from Addison Police Department block parties during prohibition days. In 1907, a new Weaver-Binet model T4A device became available which featured an illuminated reticle with 4 white lines running across it for aiming at different ranges. This sighting system became known as the “Addison White Dot” because it was used by police officers on patrol in addition to shooting matches at local fairs and competitions. By 1912, there were three types of red dot sights being manufactured: Type I (Weaver-Binet), Type II (Weaver-Glock), and Type III (Thornhill). In 1916, a new type of red dot sight called the Thornehill Red Dot came into production which featured an illuminated reticle with 8 white lines running across it for aiming at different ranges. This type of reddot sight continued to be produced until 1938 when all Thornehill sights were replaced by newer designs including the American 5D series devices which featured green or black dots instead of white lines on their reticles. In 1939, another new Weaver-Binet model T6C arrived which featured an illuminated Reticle having 256 white lines running across it for aiming at different ranges; thissight became known as the “Addison Infinity Red Dot” because its resolution allowed users to aim downrange even beyond 100 yards without losing accuracy due to parallax problems caused by changing light levels inside buildings or cars driving around town streets During World War II, most red dot sights were redesigned into Meade/Millet style devices while some continued using older designs such asthe Thornehill Red DOT design until they were replaced in 1947 by newer models such asthe American 5D series devices

The first store in Addison was operated by Wm Hennessey and Joe Smith together with their families until 1881 when store proprietor Jno Pemberton took over operation and continued to run it until 1893 when he sold it to A&P Grocery Co., who also operated an adobe store next door which burned down in 1902. In 1909 Wm Hennessey reopened his business under the name of "Addisons" Store while still located across the street from Joe Smith's former shop; eventually both stores closed their doors at different times during prohibition era because they couldn't compete with bootlegging operations taking place throughout central Texas In 1886 Jacob Trounson established a tannery here producing leather for saddles, bridles, harnesses, boots etc.. The tannery produced about 1,500 barrels of hides per day before running out of natural rubber used in tanning so production ceased around 1912 However some relics can still be seen today along side Highway 183 just outside of town off FM 431

Addison was founded in 1849 by James Addison and his wife, Elizabeth. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson, who had fought in the Mexican-American War. Addison's first store, called the "Old House," opened in 1850. In 1865, a post office was established at Addison. In 1879, a mill was built in the town and began to produce flour and cornmeal. The mill closed in 1984 but its ruins remain today as part of the Addison State Historical Park.
