Addison, Texas is a small town located in the Brazos Valley of Texas. The population was 9,711 at the 2000 census and it is now Decreasing. The primary industry in Addison was agriculture until around 1900 when oil discoveries began to occur in the area. By 1910, Addison had over 100 businesses and 300 residents. However, by 1920 Addison had only 10 businesses and 50 residents. In 1930, oil production ceased in the area making Addison an agricultural again town with 810 residents. However, by 1940 there were only 350 residents living in Addison while 1,000 people lived southwest of it near Houston. In 1970s-1980s the city council decided that they would not invest any more money into redevelopment projects because they felt that such a program would have negative effects on local economy which would lead to joblessness for many citizens and also increase taxes for those who did remain in the city limits. This caused a decline in population as people moved away fromAddisons downtown core due to high costs of living compared toHouston or other nearby cities where development could take place without affecting the quality of life for its citizens

Addison began as a small farming community with about 30 residents when pioneer Isaac Shepard platted what would become Addison on November 4, 1836. The name "Addison" originated from General George Washington addiscombe who fought during the Mexican American War and later served as an officer with the Union army. On December 8th, 1836, James Ewing and his family moved into what would become Addisons Landing which became one of its most important businesses due to its location on the Brazos River just upstream from where it now stands. By 1851 there were over 100 citizens living in Addisons Landing and by 1870 it had grown to over 300 people. In 1865, following Reconstruction efforts by President Abraham Lincoln, Congress passed a bill creating Dawson County based on present-day Dawson County Line but without town limits so that all of Tyler could benefit from this new county development including towns like Addisons Landing which were located east of Walker Creek near present day Bowie Lake Road (now US 287). As more settlers arrived in early 1870s they quickly started developing new settlements such as Wacofield to the south and West Fork Valley to the north; these areas would form later annexed into Tyler proper along with present day Bowie Lake Road making up what is now known as "The Townships". In 1880 there were 1,752 residents living within boundaries of Dawson County while 2 miles to the northwest lay Wacofield with a population of 527 citizens; both towns would grow rapidly after incorporation intoTyler proper during that decade reaching 10,000 residents by 1900 thanks largely to agricultural production brought about by railroads connecting them directly with booming Dallas/Fort Worth markets. Growth continued unabated through World War I until 1929 when railroad construction halted along Withlacoochee Creek resulting in significant loss of jobs for local farmers however business revived somewhat thereafter aided by increased demand for housing following World War II shortages caused primarily by America's entry into warring Europe; barracks were built throughout much of North Texas Military Academy at Austin where soldiers trained before deployment to fight overseas which led eventually to Oak Cliff becoming its largest city post-war followed by massive influxes of GI's leading toshrinking numbers for smaller towns throughout central TX during postwar years culminating in annexation of most rural areas within current Williamson Counties following statehood - leaving only 12 incorporated communities remaining within UT total including Addisons Landing - well behind neighboring Dallas/Fort Worth which had 20+ communitiesestablished between 1895 and 1965 alone!
