Addison is a town in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 26,422. It is the county seat of Bastrop County. The name Addison is derived from two early settlers: Addison Pemberton and John Addis. The first white person to reside in what is now Bastrop County was James Fenton in 1807. He founded Fenton Ranch on a tract of land that covered most of what is now Bastrop and Smith counties. One year later he married Anna Maria Hays and moved to what would become Addison where he built a home, raised crops, and began trading goods with Indians for goods they traded back to the Indian nations. In 1821 Fenton purchased 2,000 acres (8 km²) of land east of present day Addison from John Sellers for $5 per acre (0.2 m²). In 1825 he sold this land again to Samuel Ladd for $10 per acre (0.4 m²). On July 1st 1830 James Fenton made an largest donation towardsugar planting when he donated 10acre (4000m²) plot adjacent to his farmstead known as "Fentress Prairie". This plot became known as "Addison Prairie" after him and remains part of the town's core today

In 1903, Harry Laughlin opened his "Laughlin's Store" on south Main Street with 20 items including cigars and whisky for sale to customers over $1 per pound or 50 cents per bottle! Laughlin was one of the first businesses to open up along US 71 between Austin and Round Rock. He expanded rapidly into other industries such as cattleraising and farming throughout his career as owner/operator of many properties including: Laughlin Ranch (later ranches Lackland AFB & Kingsbury), Brazoria Heights (now east side of I-35) & High Plains Ranch (now west side of I-35). He also served as mayor from 1916 until his death in 1924; he was also inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame in 1974[1]. At his death he owned more than 4500 acres (1800 hectares) comprising much of what is now Gillespie County - making him one of its most successful landowners ever[2]. In 1923 David Ahern founded AIH Inc., later renamed Alliant Techsystems Incorporated which became one of North America's leading technology companies[3], employing over 11000 people across several countries[4] before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2008 due to weak overall demand from consumers for their products[5][6]. Despite this setback AIH continues to trade successfully under new management through their spinoff company Akamai Technologies Inc.[7] As recently as early 2016 there were still employees working at AIH's corporate headquarters located inside Alliant Techsystems' original building adjacent to US 71 north near Lamar Boulevard in Round Rock!
