Addison is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. Addison is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington-Bedford, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Addison is located about 20 miles (32 km) south of Fort Worth and has a land area of only 2 square miles (6 km²). Addison was founded in 1879 by Americans John Addison and James K. Polk as a small community on the banks of Buffalo Bayou near present day Arlington Heights. The town quickly grew with its location and natural resources; it became an important stop on the Brazos River for goods and passengers moving through central Texas. In 1906, Addison combined with nearby Arlington to become one municipality. It held its first election that year, making it one of the few U.S. cities to do so at this early date. In 1967, annexation by Arlington completed what had been begun in 1906: Addison became fully separate from Arlington. In 1962, when Interstate 35 was built through Tarrant County and annexations began to result in large numbers of new residents moving into counties away from downtowns (including Fort Worth), local leaders decided that annexed neighborhoods should have their own town hall instead of using City Hall as their main meeting place since it would be more efficient and cost effective to operate than having multiple City Councilors who were required to attend hearings throughout the county each month. This led to the founding of AddisonsTownHall Inc., which met monthly until 1978 when then Mayor Harry Huggins dissolved it due to budgetary constraints within City Hall itself while also increasing competition between Neighborhood Town Halls throughout all Dallas/Fort Worth apartments resulting in some dropouts around Lakewood Village & Springhill Village despite efforts by our Committee Chairperson Mr Gerald Ahern notLDo make any formal complaints against our Mayor during his final months as Mayor before he left office
