Addison, Texas is a town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1881 by Nels A. Addison and his wife, Sarah Ladd Addison. The town was named for General Andrew Jackson's home state of Tennessee. The first post office in Addison opened on July 15, 1881, and served until October 1, 1881. The town was platted on August 20, 1879 by Nels A. Addison and his wife Sarah Ladd Addison; it became a city on January 3, 1911 when it annexed the neighboring village of Enterprise. Addison is located at (29.560924,-95.764636). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Addison has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps). As of the census of 2010, there were 597 people residing in the city limits of Addison proper and 375 living in Enterprise annexed to it: 252 males (51%) and 176 females (49%). As of 2003 there were 582 people living withinhashed areas which includes Enterprise annexation: 349 male (61%) and 248 female (39%). As of 2000 there were 512 people living withinhashed areas which includes Enterprise annexions only: 389 male (68%) and 285 female (35%). Addison is a city in, and the county seat of, Montgomery County, Texas. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. Addison was founded in 1836 by John Addison as a small community on what is now east-central Montgomery County. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources and agricultural production, and by 1840 it had 1,500 residents. In 1852 the legislature created Montgomery County with an addition of land south of Houston to form what is now Addison. In 1865 Addison incorporated as a city with a population of 10,000 people. Growth slowed during the Civil War due to factors such as lack of access to markets and military transportation opportunities; however, after ReconstructionADDISON COUNTY HISTORY the economy exploded thanks to railroads and other industrial growth. The city annexed neighboring communities in the 1960s and 1970s including Airport Heights (now known as Westchase), Montrose Center (now known as Spring Branch), Cedar Park (now known as Tomball), Clear Lake (now known as Cypress) and Greenway Ranch (now known as Flower Mound).
